The brain for your homelab rack

Let the rack shut down in the right order.

Temperature, humidity, a leak puck and 8 switched outlets in one kit. Home Assistant built in. No subscription.

Wired. Local. Rules run on the controller.

Concept

Control Freak Server Room, brought to you by Control Freak

For the rack you run at home

The storm. The hot day. The modem that hangs.

The power goes out. Nothing shuts down in order.

Read your UPS and shut gear down cleanly in the order you set, before the battery runs out. Keep the network up until the last step.

The closet cooks on hot days.

Watch the inlet and exhaust. Start the fan, call the AC, then shut down extras if the heat keeps climbing.

The modem hangs. Nobody is home.

Power cycle any outlet from your phone. If the internet stays down for 10 minutes, the controller restarts the modem by itself.

How it works

Give every outlet a name. Give shutdown an order.

  1. 01

    Connect the rack

Put the controller and network gear on your UPS. Connect wired Ethernet and your UPS status over the network.

  2. 02

    Place the sensors

One temperature probe at the inlet, one at the exhaust. Add humidity sensing and place the leak puck under the AC.

  3. 03

    Set your rules

Name the 8 outlets. Set cooling thresholds and the clean shutdown order for your compatible equipment. Test the sequence while you are there.

What makes it different

A rack brain. Fewer things to stitch together.

Sensors, rules and outlets together

Management cards can cost too much and get stuck on old firmware. Bring the rack view and switched outlets together, without a subscription.

No extra always-on PC

Rules run on the controller over wired Ethernet. No separate computer just to keep watch, and no flaky Wi-Fi link inside the rack.

Outlets stay on through a restart

If the controller restarts, the outlets stay on. Cooling rules keep working without internet while the controller has power.

Know about water under the AC

The leak puck watches the floor. Receive an alert through Home Assistant, push or text, and sound a local siren. Phone alerts need internet.

What's included

One kit for your homelab rack.

8switched outlets
  • Controller with Home Assistant built in
  • Power Hub with 8 switched outlets
  • Two rack temperature probes: inlet and exhaust
  • Humidity sensor
  • Leak puck

Bring your UPS, network and rack equipment. A fan, AC and local siren are not included. AC control requires a compatible connection. Confirm UPS status and clean shutdown compatibility during setup.

Home Assistant built in

Your rack belongs in your smart home.

See rack temperatures, humidity, UPS status and outlets alongside the rest of your home. Restart an outlet and use rack alerts in your own Home Assistant automations.

One more dashboard should not need one more computer.

Home Assistant runs on the controller. Cooling and shutdown rules run there too, over wired Ethernet. The internet does not have to be working for local rules to work.

Honest limits

Know what it does. Know what it needs.

It is not a UPS

It has no battery of its own and does not run with no power. Put the controller and network gear on your UPS.

No per-outlet power measurement

Switch and restart each outlet. This kit does not measure how much power each outlet uses.

Phone alerts need internet

Push and text need an internet connection. The siren and rules do not. A local siren requires a connected siren.

Made for home

For homelabs and home offices, not data centers. This is a product in development. Features shown here are concept capabilities, not verified shipping performance.

Interactive demo · Simulation

Put your rack through a bad day.

Try a power cut, a hot closet or a leak. Restart an outlet and see the rules respond. No equipment is connected.
